City officials plan to announce the winner of the current bid for LED streetlight purchase & installation on February 8. The project is funded by a $190,000 EECBG award, & ought to commence soon after the award is announced. The 260 LED streetlight fixtures are expected to save very $10,000 per year in energy costs & reduce electricity consumption by 79,000 kw/H.

Fremonts current installation on Osgood Road is focused on replacing existing 150 watt to 250 watt HPS cobrahead streetlights. The city is installing LED fixtures manufactured by GE Lighting & expects to reduce energy consumption by about 30 percent.

"These projects fit within the goals of Fremonts green initiatives. Our objective is to replace even more of our HPS cobrahead streetlights with LEDs, & they will also look at finally replacing our decorative fixtures", said David Huynh, senior transportation engineer for the city of Fremont. In preparation for the larger EECBG funded installations, the city conducted a short term pilot study which tested a total of0 LED streetlight fixtures from different manufacturers.
